Moray pupils track their travel

Moray Council worked with charity Living Street to deliver a walk-to-school challenge.

Local primary school took part in Walk Once A Week

Walk Once A Week (WOW) encourages pupils to walk to school at least once a week by offering information and rewards.

Daily journeys are recorded on an online database called Travel Tracker.

By the end of the 2015/16 financial year, 18 primary schools were actively particpating in WOW, representing 40 per cent of  all primary schools in Moray.

One of the council's core aims for the 2016/17 project was to increase the number if participating schools and, despite early challenges, this was achieved.

By the end of March 2017, 23 schools were actively involved.

It is a testament to the impact of the project that schools experiencing traffic problems must implement a travel behaviour change intervention like WOW before the council will consider making changes to local transport infrastructure.
