Trustees’ Week is an annual celebration of the role trustees play in governing our charities and voluntary organisations.
This Trustees’ Week, we welcome a new Chair of our board, saying farewell to our previous Chair of 9 years, and two other long-standing Directors.
At our recent AGM, on 27 October, our Chair Marcus Sangster stepped down after 9 years of leadership and dedication to Paths for All.
Marcus joined the board in October 2012 bringing experience of governing charities and running businesses. In his professional career with The Forestry Commission, he led on the development of social research and developed the evidence base for outdoor access, particularly related to health.
He has been active in outdoor recreation policy development at both UK and European level working closely with the Outdoor Recreation Network the UK’s leading outdoor access body and he also teaches market research and business studies for the Open University.
During his time leading the Paths for All Board and championing our work, Paths for All has grown in size and reputation, strengthening our communication and project work, helping us to become the leading voice for walking in Scotland.
We also said farewell to Eliane after completing 9 years of being a Paths for All Director. Eliane has been a long supporter of Paths for All, having been involved in our set up when she worked with Scottish Natural Heritage (now NatureScot). Eliane brought a wealth of experience and support on governance, funding and inequalities advice. We also gave our thanks to Jane who stepped down after 6 years as a Director. Jane brought invaluable experience and knowledge from Public Health Scotland, in particular with support on communications and PR.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Scott Christie as our new Chair. Scott is a Chartered Accountant with 30 years of experience in a variety of industries including the drinks sector, hospitality and most recently social care. Scott brings extensive board experience from previous roles as CEO, Chairman and Non-Executive director, alongside his love of the outdoors and being active.
We look forward to another year of working together with our Board of Directors to drive Paths for All forward and ensure good governance. Find out more about the rest of our Board here.
