Walk to remember Ian Findlay

Around this time last year, we were shocked and heartbroken to announce the sudden death of our friend and Chief Officer Ian Findlay CBE.

Ian Findlay CBE

Ian died while cycling in his home town of Comrie in Perthshire on 5 March 2021 just a few days before his 60th birthday.

While the initial shock has left us, our fond memories and respect for Ian and the legacy he has left remains.

Now, to mark the first anniversary of his passing, we're calling on friends, colleagues and anyone inspired by Ian to join us by taking time out to remember him on a walk.

Appreciation of nature and time outdoors were part of the fabric of who Ian was. He couldn’t have been more authentic in his expression and belief about the value of what Paths for All does.

So, between Saturday, 5 March and Friday, 11 March, we'll be encouraging everyone to take a short walk alone or with a friend or colleague to remember Ian and enjoy connecting with nature.

Kevin Lafferty, our CEO said:

The walk for Ian’s first anniversary is an opportunity for us to remember Ian and celebrate his life.

Ian believed that physical activity and walking are essential for all of us. I had the good fortune of knowing Ian for many years and he was a person who helped make the world a better place.

His kindness and leadership inspired many of us to champion active travel and walking. When I think of Ian, I think of someone who made a real difference and helped improve people’s lives.

He was a gentleman who lit a spark in people, and that spark became a flame that lives on today in the work of Paths for All.

The charity will continue to follow his advice and act as agents for positive change.

During 5-11 March, we’ll also be sharing our own memories of Ian, the legacy he has left and a selection of his blogs on social media.

To add your memories of Ian, or post a photo of your walk, please use #WalkForIan, tagging @Pathsforall.

Anyone who wishes is also invited to make a donation to Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance in Ian's memory.

Remember Ian fondly and enjoy your walk in nature just as he always did.
