Nanette Mutrie

Nanette Mutrie is Chair of Physical Activity for Health at the University of Edinburgh and directs the Physical Activity for Health Research Centre there.  You can read more about her role at Edinburgh University here.

She has extensive experience of conducting interventions aimed at increasing physical activity and reducing sedentary time with over 200 peer reviewed publications and the 5th edition of the text book ‘The Psychology of Physical Activity for Health” will be published this year.

She has contributed to policy, for example, ‘Let’s make Scotland more active’ and NICE guidelines on various aspects of physical activity.  She has advised Scottish government on committees relating to physical activity and is currently chair of the Development Group for sport and physical activity.  A particular interest is in how to communicate to the public and she is chair of the CMOs expert group on communication of the physical activity guidelines.

Nanette received an MBE from the Queen in 2015 for services in Physical Activity for Health in Scotland.  Her own activity involves dog walking, walking the golf course, playing pickleball and commuting by bike whenever possible.
