Bonty Court Health Walk, with the help of trained volunteers, offers a weekly health walk from Bonty Court Sheltered Housing Complex in Aboyne. We meet in the Lochnagar room of the complex on a Monday at 10am.
Our walk is very low level and lasts around 30 minutes. Bonty Court Health Walk has recently signed up to the Scottish Health Walk Network and now receives support from the Aberdeenshire Health Walks project. Until last year, the group previously sat within the Active Cairngorms project.
Our walks are gentle and are usually based within the town of Aboyne. Amongst our favourite routes is a walk along Low road to admire hills, fields and the occasional deer that can be spotted there. We try to vary our walks by taking a few trips out throughout the course of the year - previous visits having included a gentle walk along the Deeside Way to the Gliding Club, and to the woodland walks/cafe at Potarch. We also have an annual Christmas lunch which we save up for throughout the year by taking a small contribution towards teas/coffees after the walk.
Even on days where it is unsuitable to walk, we always try and encourage our group to get moving by doing a short walk within Bonty Court itself and practicing some Strength and Balance exercises. After every walk we enjoy a hot drink and some biscuits back in the Lochnagar Room. Every first Monday of the month, we also invite walkers from Allachburn Care Home to join us and will sometimes return there for our fly afterwards. Anyone is welcome to join our group.
