Dementia Friendly Prestwick aims to support people with dementia, and their families/carers, in Prestwick to be included and remain part of their community for as long as possible. The charity is working to achieve this through a range of activities including weekly Health Walks - which promote inclusion and raise awareness of dementia locally. Our weekly dementia friendly Health Walks are now also cancer friendly, too. Our route starts at the Grangemuir Road end of the beach. Depending on who joins us and the weather, we walk for 25 - 50 minutes along the beautiful, flat, accessible beach promenade. There are seats along the route, and we always end up in the Parkstone Hotel for refreshments (free to walkers). The Hotel has accessible facilities, and there is a public toilet at the end of the walk route (on Links Road). We are sometimes joined by happy, well behaved dogs, which add something special to our Monday mornings. If, however, you like to walk with us but do not like dogs, let us know in advance and we will make appropriate arrangements.
Monday 11am, Grangemuir Road end of Prestwick beach. Typically the blether and cuppa is over by 12:30pm (although, there is no guarantee, and sometimes we are still pouring tea at 1pm!).
